Legal Fees
Our costs are not only competitive but affordable. The vast majority of our clients are ordinary hard-working people for whom the loss of their licence would be financially disastrous as well as inconvenient. Sometimes you may be entitled to Legal Aid but it is rarely granted in motoring cases. When you telephone the likely cost can be assessed based on the following criteria
Category of Case
Guilty Pleas cost from £250 (plus VAT)
Not Guilty Pleas cost from £750 (plus VAT)
Appeals cost from £1000 (plus VAT)
Drink-driving cases cost from £1500(plus VAT) where plea of Not Guilty is entered
Dangerous Driving costs from £2000 (plus VAT) depending on whether the case is heard at Magistrates or Crown Court level.
Much will depend on variable factors such as the location of the court (which may increase travel time) as the fees are calculated on an hourly basis (£180 per hour), and to some extent depend upon the seniority of the lawyer attending court on your behalf. In order to keep your costs at a minimum some hearings may be conducted via correspondence where it is not essential that a lawyer attends (e.g. some pleas of not guilty and case management hearings).
Another variable is the quantity of prosecution evidence that might need to be reviewed and evidence in the form of statements that may need to be taken on your behalf.
Occasionally Experts Reports are required for your defence and there will be additional costs of such Disbursements. These are not exclusively Medical Reports but may include other types for example where the functioning of detection equipment is being challenged.
A fixed fee (capped) may be agreed in some cases. A letter confirming hourly rates and any agreed fixed fee as well as other terms of service will be sent to you upon receipt of initial instruction.
The good news is that where you are found “Not Guilty” you are likely to be refunded all your costs by the Court!
